What kind of thinker am I? I don't.
04:32pm 27/03/2008

mood: contemplative
music: "Tragedy" - Epoxies

Your Thinking is Concrete and Random

You are naturally inquisitive and curious.

You're excited by new ideas, and you are a true independent thinker.

You are interested in what is possible. You like the process of discovery.

You are often experimenting, challenging old ideas, and inventing new concepts.

Rules, restrictions, and limit don't really work for you.

You have to do things your own way, and you can't be bothered to explain yourself.

Right there with you Z on not being bothered to explain myself.

The played The mother fuckng Decline!

mood: excited
music: "The Decline" -NOFX
Yeah so the NOFX show last night kicked ass.

I had a 3 hour drive from Corpus to Houston to get myself psyched up for the show. And I did just that cranking up all the NOFX & No Use For A Name albums on my iPod (Which is damn near all of them.) I got to the show right after the Latch Key Kids came one. Found Tony, Mark & Raven and basically hung out and drank beer until No Use came on.

Latch Key Kids and Flatliners were alright. Not much of a pit formed for either of them. But that gave me a chance to look around at the crowd and note FOR ONCE I WASN'T THE OLDEST MOTHER FUCKER IN THE HOUSE!!!! WOOT!!! No Use came on and rocked then house, and a nice pit formed...until the jocks joined in. They apparently didn't know the rule of "if some one falls in the pit, pick them up." I also took an elbow to the back of the head in that pit. There was also this one fucker who was just randomly pushing people into the pit. He wasn't even in it himself...he was like, three people back, and pushing people into the pit. He chilled out, though, after he tried to push me in while I was catching my breath and saw me turn and cock my fist back to deck him.

Then NOFX came on. Chaos. there was a pit in the middle of the crowd and anything in front of that forget about standing. Everybody was just so amped up and moving around that it was like being in the ocean in the middle of a storm...you just had to go with it. The Jocks must have stayed back during NOFX too because the pit for them was pretty good though out most of the set.

It was awesome. I couldn't have asked for a better set. The Seperation of Church and SkateLenoliumLeaving Jesusland and 3 songs into their set the played The Decline which for those of you who don't know is and 18 minute song. And one of my favorite ones too.

There were titties too. Titties were being exposed, which led to Hefe cracking the same joke that he did on their last live record about "This is what happens to a girl when her father doesn't pay enough attention to her." Fat mike called him on it too. And as an inside joke to Minky & Mayumi...she had nice nipples. They're weren't perfect, but they were very nice, well propotioned and all that.

My favorite joke from Fat Mike though was "Uh-Oh! The drummers clicking his sticks together, that means Fat Mike's been talking too long. I guess we should play a song now." The joke came up a couple more times during the show too.

Also when they were playing The Brews Smelly jumped up from behind the drum kit and tacked Mike. Some other dude started playing drums & Melvin was singing, so they kept playing the song while Mike & Smelly wrestled around on stage. Some of the stage hands were about to break up the fight until both men got up and let them know that they were just fucking around.

They wrapped up about midnight and I started my drive back to Corpus. I had no voice I was exhausted, my arms & legs are bruised all over and I'm lucky I didn't come into work with a black eye this morning, though honestly I think that would have been kinda cool.

Can't wait for saturday to see them again with Mike. It's going to be fun.

Fuck spellcheck! I'm being a lazy punk.

My aquarium now has fish in it. Just Four mid sized Tiger Barbs right now. More will be added later once I know the water and filtration system can handle these four and so the water balance won't spike and become toxic when I add more fish.

I finally went to the gym today. I haven't been for a couple months (Bad Riff! Bad!) and I noticed one of the trainers who worked at the gym checking me out today. Yes it was a female trainer. She kind of game me a shy smile when we made eye contact too. That was a nice ego boost for me.

SHUT UP!

LET ME HAVE MY MOMENT!!!

Got an email yesterday from a guy who found me on the Directory of Illustration online. He wants to hire me for an ongoing project, but to be begin with he's hired me to do some small sample work to see if we're on the same page as far as his ideas go.

Excellent.

I have much to tell about the holidays but honestly I don't feel like typing it out right now, and am not entire sure if I will later, but we'll see.

Oh yeah, being designated driver last night was hard.

Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
09:43pm 13/12/2007

mood: nostalgic
music: "X-Ray Style" - Joe Strummer
I just SawJoe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten tonight. I had to go see it tonight because it was one of those movies that plays at one theater for a week. Tonight was my last chance to go see it. I'm so glad I did.

I forget sometimes how powerful and influential Joe Strummer & The Clash's music has been on my life. London Calling is one of the greatest records to ever be recorded. Period. And it always makes me feel better. Even if I'm already in a good mood that record make me even happier.

Beyond that Joe Strummer was a celebrity with a social consience. It's been said that when punk broke in England in the Seventies The Sex Pistols would come in and smash everything up, and then the Clash would come in and talk about how to fix things. It was very interesting to see celebrities like Bono, Johnny Depp, Flea, & John Cusak all talking about listening to The Clash and saying that they felt the same things I felt. Talking about how listening to The Clash opened their eyes to a larger world. I never thought of myself as very political when I was writing music, but when I look back at some of my lyrics, I really did have some political & social overtones to my lyrics. I owe that to Joe Strummer.

The documentary talked about how Strummer went from a Rockabilly Hippie to a Punk and ultimately back again. It helped re-enforce what most real (in my opinion) punks already knew, which is the punk movement did spawn out of the hippie movement. And a lot of the goal and ideals in both movements have always remained the same. Social Progress.

I remember in 2002 when he died. I was watching VH1 for some reason and I had picked up the phone to call Kat to see what were were going to do later. The news went by on a ticker at the bottom of the screen and I literally dropped the phone. I was in shock. it was like a punch to the gut. Fast forward to 2004 when Joey Ramone died. Mandy was talking to me and said something like "You must be sad that Joey Ramone is dead huh?" and my only reply was "Not like when Joe Strummer died."

Anyway. Joe Strummer was a great man and truly an icon.

NOFX is playing in Houston on February 26th. Excellent. Also on March 4th. NOFX is playing at The Beaumont. Dan, I will not forgive you if you miss this show. Especially since NOFX rarely tours. That's why I'm so excited about this show. That in addition to the fact that NOFX is one of my all-time favorite bands. I also might make a trip up to Dallas on march 1st, to visit Mike...and go see NOFX again.

OK so I finished Pain. I don't really have much to say about this one. The old saying "If it's in you it's got to come out." applies to this. It's just another example of me using art to help get through a painful break up. Hey, at least I got a nice illustration out of it though, right?

For what am I thankful?

This question kind of hit me. I'm still not in a good place. Not yet. So I really had to think about this. The only thing I can think of that I can genuinely say I'm thankful for right now is my friends, In particular Minky, Saul and Tony. At the risk of sounding melodramatic I don't think I could have survived the past month without you three. That's not to say that my other friends weren't there for me, it's just I leaned on you three extra hard.

Of course, as I'm writing this I thought of something else. I'm thankful that I found a group, in the Humanists of Houston, that I can finally be a part of. I'm excited to be involved in the group and I'm excited to meet some new people.

Beyond that I'm sure I could go on to the usual list...family, health, job, and don't get me wrong, I am thankful for all of those things, but I do kind of take them for granted.

In other news I'm still toying with the idea for buying an new TV first thing tomorrow morning, but right now I'm not sure I can justify it. Even though it would be a 37" widescreen 1080i LCD TV for about $550. Not a name brand, but I've read good reviews and Minky has the brand I'm looking at and said hers has been a good TV. It would be nice and that's a good price, but I'm just not sure...

Cox vs. House
05:20pm 21/11/2007
Some people have said that if I were a doctor, I'd be just like Dr. House. I disagree. I think I'd be more like Dr. Cox, because as much of a condesending, sarcastic asshole as I can be, I'd still care. And that's the big difference between Cox & House is Cox actually cares about his patients, his residents, and people in general. House is just a misanthrope who loves puzzles.

Sorry...just some random useless spouting off from me, you all can go back to your more meaningful lives now.

Somewhat productive...
11:23pm 20/11/2007

mood: artistic
music: "Pain" -Tiger Army
Minky commented earlier in a chat today about how productive I've been lately. I really haven't been, but I kind of have. I mean I should normally be this productive but the main driving force for me to be productive right now is simply to keep busy. I don't want to dwell on my problems. Stupid teen aged problems at that. And TV's never been a good distraction for me. I mean, sure, it keeps me from really working. But rarely does my mind shut off while I'm watching TV.

I spent most of the evening tonight coloring a piece I've entitled Pain. Yeah, you know what it's about. Funny thing, you'd think working one something like that would fall in the category of dwelling on my problems. But it doesn't. I guess it's an artist thing. I don't think I really need to explain because I think most of you who read my LJ create in some form or fashion, art, writing, etc... So you know where I'm coming from.

My goal was to finish the piece tonight. Didn't happen. I finished all of the digital work and printed it out. Now all I have left is the distressing. I'll do that tomorrow night. Then later I have pages 4 and 5 of The Revenant penciled and waiting to be inked. So I guess I've been kind of productive. I think I could still be more productive.

I just need to keep moving...

Interesting...
09:34pm 17/11/2007

mood: contemplative
music: None
I'm finding out over the past few days that I might not be the misanthrope that I like to portray myself as. Being around people has tended to lift my spirits lately. I went to the regular monthly meeting of the Humanists of Houston today, and when I got home I was in a good mood. Now, it's not like there was a bunch of pretty girls there (there was one, but we barely spoke) most every one there was a senior citizen. Or definitely much older than me.

Now I did find out about another humanist group that was 20-30 year olds. And they meet at a Starbucks about 5-10 minutes from my apartment. The down side is they meet on Mondays and I can't go for the next 2 months because I got talked into joining a bowling league. Oh well, if I'm really wanting to meet someone I really probably need to give myself a couple of more months anyway to make sure I'm over Wendy.

Now the odd thing I'm finding out is, I am not a rock. I am not an island. Seems I do need people after all.

I just watched the first episode of Hard Knocks: Training Camp With The Kansas City Chiefs and I must say it was very entertaining. I laughed my ass off when they showed Jared Allen playing Guitar Hero. He was totally hamming it up for the camera and playing with the guitar behind his head. And not missing notes!

Snow Day!
03:55pm 09/07/2007

music: "Lunatone" - Tiger Army
I got sent home from work today. Well everybody did. A Transformer in our building blew and so the power went out. After about 30 minutes the Security guard showed up at our office and told us they were evacuating the building. So we grab our things and head down to the parking lot...there's about 3 fire trucks and 2 ambulances, but the building wasn't on fire so there was no panic or mad dash for the door.

After standing around for about 30 minutes the fire department closed the building. So I cam home and worked on an AtA comic.

We're supposed to call later today or tomorrow morning to find out if the building's been reopened. So I may get a snow day tomorrow too.

Oh by the way if you like music...pick up Tiger Army's new record Music From Regions Beyond It's freaking awesome.

Looks like I'll be at the Chiefs Season opener. September 9th they'll be kicking off the 2007 NFL season right here in Houston. Since the price difference between the nose bleed seats and field level seats is only $30 Aaron and I are going to try to get seats right behind the Chiefs bench.

Rock on.
